Cold & Flu

These two conditions are similar in that the immune system needs to be supported to combat invading bacteria and viruses. Remedies should support the body’s natural processes to rid the invaders as opposed to suppressing the body’s mechanisms to reduce the discomfort of symptoms that may lead to the length and severity of the cold or flu to worsen. The average adult gets two colds per year with an average duration of 7 to 10 days. Preventative supplementation (see Immune program) may prevent a mild cold from occurring. Aggressive supplementation once a cold sets in can reduce the length and severity. Not allowing a common cold to develop into a worse condition such as bronchitis, pneumonia, or flu should always be a goal of supplementation. If desire to eat is reduced, a whey protein supplement with plenty of natural fruit and/or fruit juice or yogurt is easily digested and usually tolerable. Homeopathics can target specific symptoms. Children can follow the same program, but consult with your health care practitioner as dosages should be reduced to meet their smaller body weights.
